Jovan’s young life has been shaped by HIV. His mother tragically passed away from the virus. He lives with his maternal grandmother who, despite being HIV positive, is the cornerstone of the family. Her husband, Jovan’s grandfather succumbed to AIDS. Jovan’s father, also HIV positive, is not from the area and fathered Jovan while working locally in construction. He remains distant and non -supportive, leaving the grandmother to shoulder the family’s burdens.

Despite these hardships, Jovan’s grandmother works hard to provide for everyone by managing a banana plantation, which is their primary source of income. However, the plantation yields little money, and the family struggles, especially during poor harvest seasons.

In addition to Jovan, the grandmother cares for two other children, one in primary school and the other in secondary school. Her dedication to their well-being is unwavering, yet the challenges they face are immense.

Jovan’s story highlights the struggles of families affected by HIV and the relentless efforts of caregivers who strive to provide a better future for their loved ones.
