Meet Adonis, a bright and articulate student at Bwindi Watoto School who is currently in middle class.

Adonis lives with his two sisters, one in P2 and the other in P5, under the care of their dedicated single mother.

Despite the challenges they face, Adonis shows great promise and leadership potential. Adonis’s mother works at Bwindi Community Hospital and pursued nursing school, despite lacking support from her husband.

The children’s father is unemployed and “works for money”, which, in the
local vernacular means taking on menial jobs, such as picking tea at a plantation, but he has largely abandoned the family, offering no support. As a result, Adonis’s mother raises her three children in a single-room, providing them with as much love and stability as she can.

As a day student, Adonis returns to this challenging environment each day. Yet, he remains well-spoken, neat, and observant, often sharing insights about his classmates and demonstrating budding leadership skills. His best friend, Fahiem, is a source of mutual support and protection.
